Jamtli foundation works with the development of the cultural environment, cultural tourism, collections, documentation, research and learning activities with more than 120 staff. The foundation also works through five companies and franchising, as well as with a large number of national, Nordic and European projects. We are looking for a Director
of Jamtli foundation


Jamtli foundation has the responsibility for heritage in the region of Jämtland-Härjedalen. Jamtli foundation runs Jamtli museum, which is one of the main attractions in Östersund and in the region, with approximately 200 000 visitors per year. At Jamtli there is both an indoor museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions on cultural history, archaeology and art, and an open air museum. In addition to this there is the National Museum Jamtli, creating temporary exhibitions of fine art and design. It is an integrated part of Jamtli museum, but is run by the National Museum in close cooperation with Jamtli.


Jamtli foundation also have a number of companies which run the museum of technology, the mountain museum and the site of a waterfall that vanished. There is also a franchise agreement to run activities in historic buildings in Strömsund and a company devoted to development of the primary area of expertise for Jamtli foundation which is learning through heritage at a Nordic and European level.


Jamtli foundation has collections for all areas of its work as well as a large collection for handling and use, an extensive library and archive and storage facilities both on the premises and further away. The collections of photos and textiles are particularly prominent. Jamtli foundation works in the whole region through its work on archaeology, building conservation, learning activities and lectures. Jamtli foundation has a turnover of approximately 80 million SEK per year, out of which 50 percent derives from activities such as entrance fees, commissioned work, sale, projects and cooperation with investors. The other part is funded through governmental, regional and municipal funding. To this exciting and creative organisation we are now looking for a Director who can lead the continued development of Jamtli foundation, since the present Director will retire.


Work description
The Director is responsible to the board for the daily management of Jamtli foundation. The Director is also responsible for the long term strategic development of all the areas of the foundation from decisions made by the board. An important task is to be the representative of Jamtli foundation and cooperate with other actors on a local, regional, national, Nordic and European level. The Director has the whole responsibility for the management of daily activities, finances, staff and working environment.


Qualifications and Competences
Since the work includes many different areas and subjects we are looking for a person with broad competences who has the ability to get an overview and make priorities. It is essential that you can initiate development of Jamtli through new ideas, the ability to make things happen, see new possibilities and find new ways of doing things. It is also important that you have experience from management of staff, and preferably from management of other managers.
We are looking for a person who:
– Holds an academic degree within cultural heritage, tourism or learning.
– Has experience from working with a board.
– Has experience from both private and public sectors
– Has experience of leadership and financial management
– Holds a PhD
– Has experience from European or international work
– Fills people with enthusiasm, is visionary and make things happen
– Is good at communicating and has experience from contacts with media
– Has a personality which meets the requirements of the position which this job naturally imply.

Monthly salary. We use individual and differentiated salaries based on the individual’s competences.
