Ethnology

Jamtli is involved in various projects that investigate cultural phenomena in our near and distant past. For the time being, we work on the following projects:

Dance memories

For many people, dancing is one of the great joys of life. Most places used to have some sort of dancefloor where people gathered in the week-ends. If not, one could always go to a dance in a nearby town or hamlet. Currently, Jamtli is involved in the writing of a book about dance-halls, dance memories and dance life. The book is due to be out in December 2007.

The asylum - part of our cultural heritage?

In the middle of the 20th century, the Swedish state’s system of institutions was fully developed. For hundreds of thousands of people, spending shorter or longer periods of time in an institution became part of the experience of life in industrialized society. Jamtli is in the concluding phase of a study of buildings and life patterns in asylums of the modern era.
