Östersund 1895
Welcome to the market square! It’s a good place for business and a friendly chat. The railway has recently reached the city, and in the store Gulleboden you can buy anything from old-fashioned candy to suspenders and coffee grinders. If you are looking for amusements, you can try your luck with the sling-shot or the wheel of fortune, or you can take a ride on the merry-go-round. In the alley that leads towards the lake, day labourers and artisans live in cramped conditions, working hard to make ends meet. If you are bit better off, you can pop by photographer Oscar Olsson’s recently opened studio. Perhaps you would like to have your portrait taken, 1895-style?Book a photo session at +46 070-673 92 32, June – August.

The Näsgården farm 1895
Farmer and postal clerk Jens Olofsson - called Jöns-Ol´s - lives with his family in Ålsta in the parish of Näs. With the recently built railway, alls sorts of modern inventions and ideas are pouring into the region. Separators and harvesters facilitate work, while the temperance movement has become an important factor of social life. This summer, the women are busy preparing for the coming wedding in the farm bakery. You are welcome to look, lend a helping hand, or to buy some of the traditional Swedish flatbread.
The Mountain farm 1895
During summer, the animals of Näsgården are herded to the rich pastures in the mountains, while the fields close to the farm are being cultivated. The summer pastures are situated far from the farm, and herding the animals there can take days. Normally, it is the women who spend summer here. They enjoy more freedom than on the farm, but on the other hand, they work from before sunrise to late at night. It is important to produce as much cheese and butter as possible before winter sets in. All kinds of beasts of prey lurk around the corners, and it is of vital importance to stay on good terms with the "vittra" and other creatures of the underground… If you want to, you are welcome to lend a helping hand.

Hackåsgården farm 1895
- especially for small children
An entire farm for children of all ages, with everything children liked to do in the old days. In fact, to play shop, jump in the hay, and play with wooden animals in the cowshed is a hit even amongst today’s youngsters. Every day during summer, a time-travel starts in Hackåsgården at 14:00. Together with our staff, the children (and a parent) depart for a journey through time and space. Maybe they end up in the Petrol Station 1956, or maybe in the Näsgården farm 1895. Join us!

The loggers’ cabin 1942
We are in the forests close to the Norwegian border. Norway is occupied by the Germans, and one never knows who crosses the border in times such as these. Normally, work in the forest is carried out during winter, but because of the general alert, the army needs firewood and materials al year round. Female housekeepers are becoming more common in the forest. They ensure both a healthier diet and a rise in the standards of hygiene.

Influences from the USA are pouring into the country with movies, music, food and drink. The local youth gathers at the kiosk to eat hot dogs and hear the latest gossip about the stars in Hollywood. In the driving school, children aged 6-12 can drive pedal cars and get their very own driver’s licence.
The Solbacka Commune 1971
This summer, “Kollektivet Solbacka” hires the Zetterström’s old croft. The members have left the city in order to get away from consumerism and to live in accordance with their ideals.
